a month agoI here because my boyfriend needed a haircut and we scheduled an appointment for the same day online—the online booking was very easy. When we arrived, Sly cut the hair very fast, it only took about 15 minutes for a skin fade that looked really good (see photo)! He was super friendly and nice, we chatted about his 20+ years of hair cutting experience while he cut my boyfriend’s hair. The shop was pretty clean and welcoming as well. Also, during the appointment, I heard someone call about a walk in appointment right before closing time, and Sly was able to fit them in as he seemed very flexible and kind. The pricing was super reasonable too. It was about $25 for a fade. Definitely recommend this barber shop!5 months agoI’d gone to Sly’s several times because of the convenient price and location, but this sadly will be my last time. The barber was uneven around my entire head and by the time he freestyled my bangs way to short and even took a set of clippers to my bangs, the lack of professional behavior was clear. I WILL BE BACK!2 weeks agoSly was so friendly and kind so I hate to have to leave a not so happy review but the results weren’t the best. I booked the day before for a haircut for my birthday. Sly was super personable and knew my name and made me comfortable. Being a queer woman, it’s intimidating entering a classic barbershop space but I didn’t feel intimidated here and he treated me like any other customer (even a little special after I told him my bday was the next day). He charged me $31 for a cut with lineup, eyebrows, and two designs. And I left a tip of course.My issues are with the quality of the cuts. My eyebrows were the hardest pills to swallow. One side he did a decent job on, keeping the shape I like and making them look clean. The other side…looked completely different as he took essentially the top part of the corner of my eyebrow off. It’s been a week and it’s growing back but every time I look in the mirror I think “oh my god, he took my eyebrow.” It doesn’t look great so I wouldn’t recommend that service. I had confidence because it was one of the offered services and I think what happened was he may have slipped when he was on the phone and doing my brow (not great when a razor is involved so maybe get someone else to answer the phone for appointments other than the barber).
There wasn’t an option to request a design so that was a bit of a surprise to him when I came. He tried his best to give me two heart designs: one broken, the other a regular heart. I attached some pictures (my hair’s red because it was for Valentines day) to show the design, cut, and eyebrows. I’d say the hearts were a little off but overall he did a decent job at freehanding those designs.
The line up and fade were pretty good but I will say I left with my skin pretty irritated which has only happened at a few different barbershops, usually when the barber rushes the cut and/or is a bit rough with the clippers. The irritation was around my hair line which I really noticed when I dyed my hair because extra lines showed up where the red stained the scabs from when he was pressing the clippers into my skin. So I’m guessing he pressed a little too hard. He nicked me a few times on the forehead while doing the eyebrow shave with the razor as well. The shop was small but clean and there was one other barber in there. The atmosphere was fun and he seemed very covid conscious which I appreciated. Other places have asked me to take my mask off or don’t clean their tools very well. Overall, I think 2 stars is fair for kind, quick, and clean service and a good lineup, keeping in mind that more complicated cuts and eyebrows may not be the go to here.
2 months agoI wanted to give a Sly a good review, but I am sorry there are no redeeming qualities here. He rushed my haircut, did not cut it evenly on the top, did not follow instructions at all/follow my request, did not ask me for feedback or even show me the final result, and also had really ambiguous pricing. The rushed job also makes me question if his blades were sanitized. In sum, I really can’t recommend at all, which is pretty sad for me, as I have to wait for my hair to grow back and have to have another barber fix what he did. One star.

4 months agoI’ve gone to Charlie’s Barber ever since I moved here almost three years ago. Every experience has been exceptional. I’ve been perfectly satisfied with the quality of the cut and spirit of every barber, especially Charlie. From the first step in the door to many weeks down the line, Charlie has the codes for providing sharp haircuts while maintaining a warm, professional spirit. I’d let Charlie cut my hair until the day I die, if weren’t for my career leading me over 700 miles away. Even still, I may be saving my haircuts for a trip to Charlie’s when I’m back in town. Absolutely top notch.3 months agoI tried this place out after a few other barbers I wasn’t a fan of in the area and could not be happier. Charlie has given me my favorite hair I have literally ever had. I moved from out of state and it’s always a pain to find all of your new spots but thankfully I found my favorite barber I’ve ever had.Extremely knowledge and pro staff between both Charlie and Michael. Good conversation and that classic barber shop feel too. Super easy to book online and really well priced. No one else I’ll go to.
4 months agoI’ve been getting my haircut at Charlie’s for about a year and a half now, and I’ve been very happy with all of my haircuts. Charlie is great at what he does and his team of barbers are all very capable. The barbers are kind and will chat if you want to or just keep quiet if you’re not in the mood for a conversation. A+ in my book!5 months agoCharlie’s is the best barbershop in town hands down. Not only do I walk out with an excellent haircut every time over the course of 6 years but it’s also incredibly quick.I’ve tried out a few other barbershops in Cambridge/Somerville but they’ve been fairly inconsistent. I’d bike from across town just get a haircut at Charlie’s.
4 months agoI’ve been going to Charlie’s barber shop for a few years, and have consistently received excellent haircuts from everyone who works there. They always make me feel welcome, and kindly explained the types of haircuts so I can consistently get the style of cut I want. I always leave feeling refreshed and confident, and can’t thank them enough for their great work.

Additionally- it’s got a unique vibe that is welcoming and cool- I finally feel like I have a barber shop that I belong to, like in the movies. Look no further!3 weeks agoAtlas Barbershop’s hair ccuts are phenomenal. I’m blind, and have no sense of style, so I told the barber, Joseph, to cut it shorter and do as he sees fit. Trusted friend say that I looked very stylish. Joseph was very enthusiastic and interesting and the haircut was quick and efficient. I’d highly recommend this barbershop to anyone looking for a quick and effective haircut.3 months agoI have lived in the Boston area for more than 10 years and I only go to the guys at Atlas! The team here is full of master barbers that pay attention to the detailed requests of customers. I have a head full of curly and difficult to manage hair – every member at Atlas is happy to take the time to provide a custom scissor cut.Also, as good as the haircuts, is the vibe of the shop – everyone is friendly, accommodating, and a general great time.

3 months agoHad a haircut with Latif. Truly an amazing master barber. Have been going to him for a few months now and he has never disappointed. Always shows the utmost professionalism and skill. He pays very close attention to cutting my hair and maintaining my beard. Recommend him 11/10.3 months agoHad a walk in with the older guy and looking across to the two other seats of people getting cuts I was feeling optimistic about the haircut I was about to get. However I was then subjected to one of the worst haircuts I’ve ever had. It was really careless with no attention given, and the guy cut off way too much after I’d said I just wanted a slight trim/reshape and showed him with my hands how much I wanted off. Went from having medium length hair to being 5mm on the sides…. Cut was uneven and lumpy too so I couldn’t even be happy about it despite the fact it was much shorter than I’d hoped. Guy just waved the clippers around my head seemingly randomly and then blunt cut chunks off with scissors without paying much attention. Definitely would not go back and going to a different place tomorrow to get my hair fixed.
